What should a business banking relationship manager be doing for a small-business owner beyond managing accounts and processing loans?

A good banking relationship manager should be much more than someone who manages accounts or provides financing. I believe our role is to be a trusted advisor and resource for our clients.

That means having regular conversations to understand what’s happening in their business, anticipating challenges, and identifying opportunities as their needs evolve.

It’s also about connecting clients with the right internal and external partners, whether that’s treasury management specialists, CPAs, business insurance professionals, payroll providers, or fractional CFOs. These relationships can help businesses improve efficiencies, strengthen their operations, and develop strategies for sustainable growth.

Ultimately, I believe a great relationship manager should be someone a business owner feels comfortable calling, even when their question has nothing to do with banking. It’s about building relationships, providing solutions, and helping businesses succeed.
